Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, or REACH, affects all industrial sectors and indirectly also other businesses operating in the European Union. The regulation came into force in June 2007.

REACH requires the proper registration of substances manufactured within or imported into EU countries. Companies that are not in compliance with REACH obligations face serious monetary and legal consequences.

REACH covers not only chemical substances traditionally considered chemicals, such as acids and solvents, but with some exceptions practically all materials (for example, steel and industrial by-products, and in certain cases even finished and semi-finished products, such as machines and equipment and their components).

Non-EU companies must consider REACH when importing materials into EU.
